A Message from your ASB Vice President

Hey Everyone! This year has been a rollercoaster and we all got through it together!

My name is Caleb Pak. I currently hold the position of ASB Vice President and President of the Senate for the 2020-21 school year. I am a senior Finance major. My hopes are to eventually go back to school to become a exotic animal veterinarian and work for the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park while teaching adjunctly at Point Loma for the biology department. While doing this I hope to do conservation research. I grew up as a Pastor’s Kid and grew up in the Pasadena area. My favorite genres of music are musicals/show tunes and county. For those of you who are interested in personality tests, my enneagram is five and my MBTI is INTP. My 5 Strengths are: Context, Learner, Input, Analytical, and Restorative. Hope this little introduction helps you to get to know me a bit better.

My primary roles are similar to the roles given to Kamala Harris, our country’s Vice President. My primary role is to facilitate and be in charge of our legislative body, Senate. I am the bridge between the executive branch and the legislative branch. I communicate all updates and inquiries made by the Senate and I also take projects the Board wants help on to the Senate. I plan meetings and set the agenda as well as have the authority to vote in the event of a tied vote. I am also the one who takes charge of the President’s responsibilities should he be sick or incapacitated. You all are welcome to join in our meetings (meeting times and location are listed in the Senate page). This past semester required lots of creativity and perseverance in order to get things done. I find that often true leadership is found in times of crisis and that having profound limits allows leaders to think outside the box and thrive more than if the situation was the opposite.

My overarching and most personal goal I wish to do is to give each Point Loma student the gift that Point Loma has gifted me; a sense of purpose and a goal/snapshot of what all your futures could and will look like. As God’s image bearers we all have a purpose and gifts to fulfill those purposes. Your time here is a place to cultivate your minds and your relationship with your fellow students and God.

My specific goals are to solidify and finish an Amendment to the Constitution to add a Judicial Branch through my subcommittee.

I also hope to create a permanent standing committee called the Constitutional Survey Committee to have a group to constantly improve the Constitution through edits and Amendments.

In addition, I hope to provide input and support to the newly added role of Director of Diversity and Inclusion.

In response to political discourse, I hope to create a Political Commission consisting of the presidents from College Democrats, College Republicans, and Young Americans for Freedom to provide political unity within Point Loma.

My most important focus after the elections will be to train the next Vice President as effectively as possible so that he or she is well prepared for the next term.

I will leave you with this quotation from one of my favorite US Presidents, Calvin Coolidge, “It is a great advantage to a President, and a major source of safety to the country, for him to know that he is not a great man.”
